oil level

Or leaned over on the sidestand. It has to be standing straight up. Some newbys have made this mistake I think. But when draining the oil, keep it on the sidestand to drain all the oil .. Reason? The location of the drain plug (in my opinion). Criswell

From the 2009 owner's manual: "Oil Level Inspection If the oil has just been changed, start the engine and run it for several minutes at idle speed. This fills the oil filter with oil. Stop the engine, then wait several minutes until the oil settles. If the motorcycle has just been used, wait several minutes for all the oil to drain down. Check the engine oil level through the oil level gauge. With the motorcycle held level, the oil level should come up between the upper and lower level lines next to the gauge. If the oil level is too high, remove the excess oil through the oil filler opening using a syringe or some other suitable device. if the oil level is too low, dd the oil to reach tthe correct level. Use the same type of oil that is already in the engine." A few pages lter, the Engine Oil Capacity is listed as follows: 2.2 L (2.3 US qt) [when filter is not removed] 2.5 L (2.6 US qt) [when filter is removed] 2.5 L (2.6 US qt) [ when engine is completely dry] After owning 17 motorcycles and working at a motorcycle shop for 10 years, these instructions are pretty simple to follow. Done exactly as specified - the oil level will exceed the top line in the sight glass completely. 1 of 2 things is wrong here. The sight glass is too low OR the recommended oil amount is too much. eddie

Observation: While waiting the recommended "several minutes" following running the engine, I noticed that the oil level is just under the top line in the sight glass before the 1st minute is up. Any longer and the bubble disappears completely. eddie
