John, They were great bikes in their times. We had 3 guys in our little group back in the late '50's with BSA's A 500 Shooting star twin, a Spitfire Scramble with lights and tagged, a Lightning. I had a '59 500 Triumph at this time. Graduating up from a '56 Harley 165 and then a '56 Alstate 175 ( puch ) . I had a '69 Norton Commando Fast back but it was not good to me. Transmission spit out 2nd gear once and then later broke the main frame and down tubes. I sold that one to a guy whom had build his on frame for a flat tracker and wanted the Norton engine. Of course jumping levees in the muddy rice fields and running around ruff scramble tracks didn't help it none. That was Replace by a '72 Honda K2 750. My first electric starter bike . ;-).
