Cool, thanks for the info Andy. Question though...assuming the countersprocket is "free to ride on its shaft"...Wouldn't it "find" centre through centrifugal force, with the rear being fixed? I've seen pics of other mods (countershaft sprocket upgrades) where there appears to be no shims...just the new sprocket and the stock lock washer.

The install went pretty well, however when the chain was adjusted and I was about to put the countershaft sprocket cover back on...I noticed there was play in the sprocket on the countershaft!! Make sure your were sent the correct sprocket for your model bike. I think there are 3 different types for the 650. If do use spacer, run a string or lazer to check alinement to shim the correct direction. Andy in Jennings, La. --------------------------------- Do you Yahoo!? Get on board. My 2004 KLR runs great.I did a four hundred mile ride last week with no problems. I got 58 mpg. My problem is if I let the bike set for five or six days without riding my battery goes dead. I put in a new battery with good tight connections. Still it drains down. Any one got any ideas what could cause this. TIA Dennis A18 [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

You're not leaving the parking light on when you lock the forks are you? If not then start looking for a short by attaching a multimeter in line with the hot side of the battery to confirm draw. Pull out the fuses one at a time and see if you can isolate the problem. Keep us posted. --Jim A-15

He made that look easy. 1- lots of skill and experience 2- work stand 3- tools handy 4- new, clean rim. 5- new, non-DOT tire WITH A SINGLE MOTO ON IT! Usually on a KLR or enduro bike, or anyone who doesn't have a full tire sponsorship is changing out a DOT tire with a WAY stiffer sidewall that's been stuck on the rim for a couple months and hardened from sun and weather. Add to that, changing it on the ground trailside, or under a streetlamp at a rest stop parking lot. Devon Brooklyn '07 EXC450 '78 SR500

26 days until the next JulianTechDay. Look at the leftcoastklrs.com website for further details. Southern California's only "No Invitation Necessary" TechDay. No vendors, well one vendor, EagleMike, it's at his shop. We'll have stuff from all the major KLR vendors on hand. If you need anything, let us know and we'll do our best to have it for you. Good food, good friends, good ceegars too (in memory of the late, great, Missing in Action CAStu)......no bullshit! Maybe even some Julian Apple pies. And yes, I have a vested interest. I founded the damn leftcoastklrsociety. Definitely a non-profit venture. Buddy bseifert71@...

Hello Group I'm using a Walmart Everstart # ES14LA2, works good, just add the acid. They had many to choose from. Thanks Ben from Silver Lake Or. Ben [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
