James...as far as I know there's nothing to time with a timing light on s KLR .....The ignition trigger coil is fixed and there is no adjustment to it....My Clymer manual says it's all electronically controlled by the CDI unit. Mike- Clymer at p.210 shows how to check timing (with timing light). If the check is wrong, they suggest testing the CDI (did that: ok, though I understand those tests don't prove it's good). If that tests OK they suggest checking whether the woodruff key is damaged, which would affect timing. Since I'm robotically doing the electrical tests in Clymer (CDI, diode unit, ignition coil, exciter coil, pickup coil, spark plug cap resistance), I thought I'd do that one too. But my betters in this group have persuaded me that timing is probably not the problem, fuel and electrical are better candidates.-James
