Has anyone out there had experience with a Superbrace fork brace? I
really want a fork brace but the Happy Trails (thanks for the link,
Gino) brace is expensive and a local shop has the Superbrace for
CDN$169. If the thing works I'd like to order it right away so any
info would be appreciated.

worth every cent, especialy if you like to do serious high speed highway or
twisties. It realy improves the handeling, stiffens the front a bit, and
looses the hesitation in high speed turns.

Maybe it just me or maybe I have a dog KLR, but my bike is not
capable of "serious high speed highway".

In my opinion the KLR is not adequate for "serious high speed highway", nor is it adequate for "serious dirt riding. It is in fact a great Dual Sport bike. Anyone who accepts it as adequate under just about any circumstances is not a serious rider. It seems to me that when a rider accepts any bike as adequate, he has met his match as far as skill level. If the bike is more than adequate, it is probably capable of more than his skill level. I have never heard of a professional rider that was completely happy with his steed, unless he was retiring. I am an old fart, and find the KLR lacking in every department for my age reduced capabilities. It's to big, too wide, too heavy, too much Tupperware, inadequate in suspension, brakes, power, and the color sucks. But that's just "for me." I find that my aged skill and capabilities get better results in the dirt with a smaller bike. I find on the road and light dirt the DR 650 more suited to my needs. You probably find things different. Even though I have sold my A15, I still believe it is probably the best DS bike for most of the people on this list. The fact that so many KLR riders invest so much in modifications indicates that it is inadequate for them too. But unlike me, lot's of folks like to tinker as much as ride. I buy a bike to ride, right out of the box; and if it doesn't match me, I sell it and buy another. Then I buy another, and another. I couldn't do that in my first and second childhood, but now I can, because I am in my third childhood. They just keep getting better! It's never too late for a great childhood. -- bierdo> Maybe it just me or maybe I have a dog KLR, but my bike is not > capable of "serious high speed highway". > > Pat >

Heya John,
Go to www.arrowheadmotorsports.com
Go to "quiknav" in upper left corner
Select "New Products"
Find Superbrace ad on page & click on "more info/pix at bottom of the ad.
There's a short review there with installation pix, that I did of the
Superbrace. Fred did a great job of putting it all together for the web.
Current update....I've encountered zero clearance problems with the taller
knobs of the Dunlop D606 front tire. While navigating thru sand, rocks, &
some mud, on a regular basis. Still doing backflips over the newfound
stability up front. All best

I bought the brace that Fred sells. I consider it to be one of the
best modifications I have made; the front end feels much more stable.

Weigl out of Germany makes the Telefix fork brace. Sells for about $129.00
from Spec II is located in Sylmar, Ca. (Near L.A.)
SpecII Site: http://www.spec2.com/clips.html
Picture of brace from Weigl site: http://www.motoco.co.jp/telefix/telefix.htm
This is a well engineered product that fits KLR 600s and 650s.

I am new to this group (and with a new 02 KLR 650 [made in Thailand]) and would appreciate feedback on the available forkbraces, which appear--to me--to be from: Happy Trails; Dual Star; or Superbrace. Which places the least unsprung weight on front?
Thank you.

I've not tried the Dual-Star or Happy Trails braces though can tell you
that the Superbrace works fine.
I can appreciate the want of less weight on most bikes, but....with the KLR,
the weight difference between the braces is relatively slim. I doubt you'd be
able to tell the difference in weight between the three on a KLR650. (unlike
mx racing where you're jumping alot, or high performance street bikes where
you can feel small changes in weight/suspension, in turns)
No doubt you'll be pleased with whichever brace you choose. All best

Peter,
I just installed the same fork brace and had the same problem. I did
not like the boot just sitting on top of the brace so I cut a piece
of clear rubber tubing the exact inside diameter and slid them down
between the boot and brace. It make a tight seal. I will see if they
stay put. If anyone else has a better solution please post it.

Subject: Front Fork Boots
Well last Monday afternoon I called Fred Hink at Arrowhead
Motorsports and ordered a few things for my new A16. Fred was very
helpful and I received the new fork springs, brake lines, superbrace
and bash plate Wednesday afternoon. Great service and what a
difference these additions make to the KLR!
My question is, does anyone have an idea for securing the lower end
of the fork boots to the superbrace. It appears that the brace is
recessed to accept the boots, however the boots don't
stay put while riding. Thanks in advance.
