Chris, It works like this: Now look carefully... O\O The "O" is one bolt or nut, and the \ is the safety wire. If either bolt or nut tries to loosen, it will effectively tighten the other, so neither one loosens. When you secure a safety-wired fastener to a solid piece of hardware, you wire it to the the side clockwise from the hole. I hope that makes it clear enough. There are a whole lot of subtleties involved that will have a safety-wire geek talking your ear off for a week, but these are the basics. Good Luck, =gc= former Sgt., USMC VMFP-3 Tactical Recconnaissance squadron, and safety wire expert. --- Chris wrote:

Thanks all for the replies, it's much clearer now. To summarize the other suggestions and comments. You can tie off to adjacent points of opportunity, bore holes in any spare lugs, tie to body pieces, tie off to other nuts, solder on terminal lugs. The list went on. Now I get it.

Here's a page with some safety wire instructions. Might give you some pointers. Safety wire pliers are nice to have, but not a necessity. Smitty (the new guy/lurker on the list)

Two quarts and about 8 ounces will bring it up to the full line with a filter change. Shouldn't notice any difference between 10w40 and 15w40. kwhite7s@... wrote: Hi Guys, am changing the oil, so can anyone tell me :- 1) How much oil my Tengai will take ????? 2) any preference between 10/40 or 15/40 ???????? Ditto on Eldons method. I am at 39,000 miles and have switched over from expensive synthetic / dino blend to cheap Shell Rotella 15W / 40W. 2 mechanics that whose opinion I trust were big on it. Oh no, oil again. Pretty soon Jennifer will emerge. Criswell
