I had significant reliability problems with a Kisan modulator. Basically, the front of my KLR shakes around enough, even on potholed NYC streets (heck, even on our *highways*), to eventually shake the extra weight of the modulator off the back of the headlight plug, which now sticks out just past the point at which the rubber shroud gently pushes it into place. The result is arcing that first makes the unit unreliable and eventually just destroys it completely. I don't think this type of modulator is appropriate for our bikes. I hadn't heard of problems with the wire-in Kriss modulators. I think Kisan does still build a wire-in; maybe it's the best choice? I use the Visipath system with excellent results.

headlight modulator
Hello
Haven't seen any talk of headlight flashers/modulators since 2004. I just put one from Comagination on my 2002 and while it works properly at idle, when the engine speed picks up, the flash rate increases to around 20 flickers/sec (way too fast) and goes back to 4 again when the engine speed returns to idle. My LED voltage lights don't go above 14.8 and the manual says 15volts is the limit for normal operation of the electrical system. I emailed the guy at Comagination who said this behavior is probably due to voltage spikes and that this could be a warning that the regulator is failing. He wants me to hook it up to an oscilloscope and look for voltage spikes. As I no longer have an oscilloscope, I took the modulator off and put it on another bike, a Honda, and it behaves the same way. I guess I have a couple of questions for the group:
1. Does the voltage spike explanation make sense?
2. Should I start planning to replacing the regulators on all my bikes (which are running fine) and hope this will fix the problem?
2. Is there something I can add, capacitors or zener diodes maybe, to take care of the spikes and eliminate the problem?
Thans
Hal

added windshield hardware to the parts compatibility list
I added the folllowing entry to the Parts Compatibility list in the files section. Do any of the pre 08 KLRs use the same rubber compresssion nut to hold the windshield on? My 05 had a smaller windshield and I never took it off so I dont know if it was the same.
KLR windshield mounting hardware, 08+
I have not tested this for pre 08 but will reach out to the list and update this
the rubber compression nuts used for mounting the windshield on 08+ bikes wear if the windshied is replaced, I swap tall and short for on and off road. I found Ace Hardware, probably any hdwr store with good stock, carries rubber expansion nuts. The 10x32 size is an exact fit. To use this you need to buy 10x32 machine screws with a suitable plastic washer. I used 4 3/4 inch screws although the stock is closer to 1/2 on top and 3/4 on the lower 2 screws
