Can someone recommend a set of hand guards for my 04 klr 650. I just need something that will block wind and light brush. I don't really need anything too heavy. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks, klrwes

http://www.rockymountainmc.com/Product_Details.atv?pid=00038097 Tusk have been reported to be worth every penny at $21.99 and the OEM winddeflectors are also reported to work with them after some modifications (cutting a hole for the guard to pass through) Someday I will order a pair, no doubt after that "snap" of a lever. I like these. http://www.dual-star.com/index2/Accessories/rally_handguards.htm They've held up for 4 crashes now and 1 bike drop. No broken levers. Fred sells them too I'm pretty sure and I would get them from him. MrMoose A8 (Barbie and Ken special)

I've always gone with the tried and true Maier Bark Busters with the plastic mud guards. Most everything out there that is any good is nothing more than a cosmetic variation of the Bark Buster. As a side note, ACN Machining makes a trick little bar mount for your handguards. They have a u-shaped channel that provides room for cables and brake lines to clear the bar mount. Simple question... Are there those metal handguards for the KLR out there some where? I have been lucky enough thus far with my "falls", that 99% of them have been 5 MPH or slower. OK, before you start laughing to hard, let me explain. It usually happens on a slight hill, where something impeads my forward intended path and I fall to the low side where the hill is slopped and the bike is so far over I can't stop her from going down. It's so bad that one of the three questions my wife asks when I get back from a ride is... "Did you fall down?" Like I said, I've been lucky so far, but my guards are toast. I have an 87' A1, so mine are white, a little harder to find, but I have found them. I have not bought any because I can't seem to keep from using my handle bars as a kickstand! So I figure I need something that won't show the world what an idiot I am while riding! Thanks for not laughing to long. GM

I am very happy with my Emgo 79-9721 lever guards installed a year ago. A nasty high side on pavement a month ago and many falls in the bush have me convinced. They weren't expensive either. The aspect I like best about them is that they have threaded holes (1/4" National Coarse) which allow the original hand guards to be retained. The plastic hand guards need to be trimmed to remove the mounting at the end and need a spacer to position them out a bit from the Emgo bar. I had some plastic spacers in my junk box. A suggestion re falling over: I am very short in the legs so this is a real issue for me also. Not having a dirt bike background made matters worse, IMO. Last summer I spent a lot of time at the cottage riding trails and chasing kids on moto-crossers which forced me to learn to ride standing on the pegs. The more I rode that way, the more control I gained. Now I can ride both much faster, and much slower than I ever thought possible. I seldom fall over now as one's ability to balance while standing is far better. The bike can be laid over quite far while the body weight is shifted the other way to compensate. It took a lot of time and work but made a huge difference. I suspect that a knowledgeable coach would have seen this need right off and taught me these skills but I'm on the way now. No problem keeping up on fast rides any more! I still enjoy the look of abject terror on the face of some MX rider who has slowed or stopped ahead when the KLR comes barrelling at them making 50 mph on a dirt trail. (LOL) Eat dirt or die, pilgrim! Maturity is such a fleeting thing, (VBG) Norm [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

Geoff, I'm same as you! So I picked up some "EMGO" guards that look just like the "ACERBIS" ones, but for less $. They've saved me a few $ already. Ed
