Watt-man got 33k out of his on WD40. Of course you are right, riding style could play a big part. My KLR's chains typically go pretty close to 20k on WD40, that's on a mix of paved and unpaved. I'm still not hearing anything to recommend your "lube". What are you using on your KLR? How long do your chains last?

chain lube - squeak question
jud,i use silkolene or spectro, but i find little in difference in the
top brands as long as the rollers and teeth keep a 'grey coating' on
them, silkolene seems to hold up best in the rain,i get 3 + years out of
a regina gold chain,let me ask you a question,what constitues when a
chain is worn out?does it break and leave you stranded?or worse goes
thru the cases,do the o- rings disintegrate ?the old pull the link away
from the sprocket method? i'm sure i could get many more miles, but the
sprockets suffer when the chain's pitch changes
too much ,i almost never change a rear sprocket at all .another
question,as for 'snake oil' lubes can you tell me what WD consists of?

One thing that would make chain/sprockets last way longer is enclosing the trio. Don t know why you have to buy a tiny bike in a third world country to have that proven system. Last one I can remember sold here was the MZ 500; the Saxon was the dual sport model. Accordion rubber sleeves would make this workable in all but the most extreme off road conditions. Dork factor makes all eschew enclosing? Hey...we ride klrs. Howdy Bogdan,
Did you know that MZ was going to close it's factory after all these years?

The old Bultaco Matador 250 enduro model had an enclosed system kinda
like that (late 60's). My brother - in law had one. He didn't like 2
strokes as he was always seizing them ...... because? I saw him a
number of times when low on gas when we were riding pull up to a
service station and put gas in .... without adding oil. He don't
deserve to own anything mechanical.

WD-40 is Stoddard solvent and light machine oil with a bit of perfume added to make it smell like, well, WD-40. Nothing particularly special, magic, or snake-oilish about it. The stuff in jugs is about 60% Stoddard solvent and 40% light machine oil, the stuff in cans is if I recall correctly 80% Stoddard solvent and 20% light machine oil. None of this is harmful to chains in any way. My only beef with WD-40 as a chain "lubricant" (really, rust-proofer and o-ring conditioner) is that it washes off easily in the rain, resulting in a rusty chain. But for cleaning chains it does just fine.> question,as for 'snake oil' lubes can you tell me what WD consists of?

chain lube - squeak question
again, how do YOU determine when a chain is worn and needs
replacing, wait till it breaks?,get stranded? i don't know ,is this some
kind of chain mileage contest?,i stated how i determine when to replace
a chain,then i replace it,i don't shoot for a certain mileage,when it's
worn out, that's it,i hit some remote places and i'm not guessing on the
chains cond.

Is this a troll? Without something to suggest that your snake oil might make my chain last longer than the snake oil I use, I have no reason to use anything else.
