Here the ONE advantage of the cheapie meters over a nice full
featured one: it lets you buy 10 meters and have them available in
every convenient location you choose.
There no doubt a better meter will provide more functionality and
safeguards against connecting up the meter improperly, and really the
test leads will be the most noticeable difference in normal use (like
having a large 21 LCD monitor compared to a 14 CRT). The cheaper
meter test leads are stiff, short, and yes, more easily broken if not
taken care of by tugging on the leads.
If you only plan to have one meter, then by all means get a nice one,
but I like being able to sprinkle the HF around to have available for
immediate access. If I need something more suited for the expensive
meter, I ll run off into the house for the other meter, but it rare
that I d need to.
