Pat I ran about 100k miles on two different GS's R11GS and R1150GS. Never had a problem . Also run about 60k miles on 2 KLR's . Never had a problem. I sold my first KLR ( '92 ) after buying a '95 R11GS. In '98 I traded the GS in on an R11R so my feet would touch the ground solid. Big error. At the same time I had a couple DR350's which were great on the gravel roads and trails but sucked on the highways. Sold them and got an '00 KLR. Got rid of the '97 R11R in '02 for another GS. Never got rid of the kLR this time. I put it like this. The KLR will do anything the GS will do but not as fast or as comfy on the highways. The GS will not do the gravel roads and trails nearly as comfy at the KLR. My KLR has now seen 4 bikes leave my shop and is still here. And, I don't think it's in danger of leaving yet. A guy really needs both of them in his stable. ;0-)... '43 Andy in SW Louisiana '00 KLR 650 '06 DL 1000

Personally I think BMW is trying to get even with Harley Davidson on how much you pay for what you get. I just can't justify a 10 thousand dollar 650 single. Or a 7000 buck one either. Course, I'm a couple years from retirement so starting to trim down my spending. ;=). Andy in SW Louisiana

#40 or #42 pilot jet?

RM, In my stock carb, oem jet is 36. 38 is the next step. I am currently running the Dynojet 38 w/ needle at 4th lean position and have good results for temp and mileage. Anything above that seems too rich for my area. Your results will differ depending upon elevation, humidity, riding style, alignment of the planets, etc... 06 KLR650, Desert air at 3000ft, stock exhaust. Previously...with the ,now removed and for sale, Big Gun header and EVO muffler I ran the 40 jet W/ needle in the mid position and it was still too lean.
