I take it the factory warranty can't help you out? Sure seems like something to be covered under warranty. -- Blake Sobiloff http://sobiloff.typepad.com/> http://sobiloff.typepad.com/klr_adventure/> San Jose, CA (USA)

tube failure - wtf?

Post by Barry Spice » Thu Mar 29, 2007 4:10 pm

Digest delayed response I've had this happen to me 2X. Both with heavy duty tubes. The first one was on my first tire change on the new to me, previous owner rode it to Argentina, (I think that I'm the 4th owner) bike. Anyway, mounted the rear tire, and the valve stem pulled out of the tube, real clean like. I bought a regular tube at the dealer for $15 (cheng shin I think), and kept riding So, next tire change, I install another heavy duty tube (from Fred). Installation went fine, but at the end of the first ride (about 50-60 miles), the stem pulled out of the tube, bringing with it a leaf shaped piece of rubber. Fred promptly sent me a replacement, but asked me to send to the defective tube to the manufacturer- that cost me $8. So I popped the $15 thin tube back in, and have ridden probably another 500-600 miles on it. The heavy tube is still sitting on the shelf. Dealers up here won't cover ANYTHING on a bike with ANY modifications. With my heated grips, driving lights, pannier brackets, and different rear rack...they would laugh me out of the place. I had a Yamaha dealer try to weasel out of covering a bad brake light switch and seat cover on my snowmobile because I had a plug for a heated shield for my helmet (powered through a fuse, wired properly). I'm an auto technician...I know this is wrong, you know its wrong, and I'm sure the dealer knows its wrong. But its cheaper for me to take care of this myself than to hire a lawyer to fight them just to get a starter issue covered. Jim
