Not a bad idea but I think the cutover points could be better thought out. Green should be above around 12.5V since a good battery at rest should have this sort of voltage. In theory, a bike running at 12.0V at much over idle could be seen as discharging or at least suspect. The green LED would not indicate this. Mister_T Melbourne Australia

Is totally wired cycles still in business? What about an alternate source? I like plug and play! Yardman47

I bought a headlight relay kit from easternbeaver.com. I ordered it on Saturday and had it on Wednesday. You can try them and see if they have what you want. Paul

I bought most of my wiring upgrades from Eastern Beaver and have been very satisfied with both the product and the service. I haven't bought his headlight relay kit yet, though. -- Blake Sobiloff http://sobiloff.typepad.com/blakeblog/> http://sobiloff.typepad.com/klr_adventure/> San Jose, CA (USA)

The charging voltage will depend on the load which is on the system so a poor battery can cause the maximum voltage to be lower than it should because a poor battery can have a lower voltage than it is supposed to. If the battery voltage is lower, the battery will continue to allow current flow through the battery (which we refer to as charging) even though the battery is not returning plate material to lead-peroxide & lead. Another issue is that a battery's electrolyte concentration (specific gravity) decreases as the battery temperature increases. A lower concentration will result in a lower battery voltage which tends to drop maximum charging voltage. This is a normal result of temperature increase and so many voltage regulators incorporate a temperature compensation which lowers charging voltage as temperature increases. I haven't checked to see whether the KLR regulator does compensate because our moderate temperatures are not usually a problem but someone likely will have done some measurements. Sounds like you need a battery as 4.5 years is not bad battery life in this neck of the woods. HIH Norm [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
