The pre '69 Honda CT90s had the sprocket change out you describe but
it was replaced by the the dual range transmission. Flip a lever and
it engages a two cogs on an idler shaft and gives you four low or on a
KLR five low. Now that would be a option I would enjoy and no having
to mess breaking the chain.
And if you think it would only work on low hp bikes Honda had the same
system on the CB900C in 1980-82.

Norm,
MINE had to be changing out the (appeared to still have useable tread) OEM Dunlop front
tire for a 3.25 x 21 K270. NOW my front end doesn't wash-out on snotty surfaces... and I
don't have to change my underwear as often DURING rides!

PS Oh yah - and putting gas in ASAP after hitting reserve!

new horizons
Just back from a 4100 mile trip cut short due to weather in Wyo, Co,
N.Mex and Texas. Did see many interesting things of course and will be
going back to Co. in August with the KLR650 for some high mountain
passes with a new KLR owner and friend from Manatou Springs.
Now have decided to sell my '02 BMW R1150GSA with about 49K miles on
it if anyone is interested or knows someone interested. Time for a bit
lighter bike and just a change in general. Having done 50+K miles on a
'95 R11GSA and 24K+ on a '97 R11RA it's time to go play with another
brand while still can. ha ha ha

Texas at a lonely little general store, gas station in southern
Colorado on thier way to Utah for the bash. Who would of thought that.
Small world.
