my one-year old renthal 966 handlebars are available for $40 plus s
I mounted some ATV mid-high bars SE (seven-eighth) from Pro-Taper (Fred has
the full line)on my KLR650 and tested them at DVDaze in late January 2005.
They were Aok while on the pegs (the handlebar model I picked with Fred for
riding while standing was not the highest bar offered from all of the
suppliers we researched, as I do not like large sweep angles).
I picked the Pro-Taper ATV Mid 423 in platinum gray w/ a Length of 813mm,
height of 150mm (no center rise provided) and sweep of 76mm, which is the
max I can accept after . Fred shipped it out in quik-time and off I go. It
was a compromise for me as I love near-straight/level bars, but I also
needed a handlebar that would not have me drapped over the triple clamps
when riding on the pegs. My solution was not perfect, but DS is all about
compromise.
So my one-year old Renthal #966 bars are available for a song - $40 (that's
about half price of retail) plus shipping and packaging of $9.00 in the
lower 48 states if ya can't pick them up in Las Vegas, or add $12 shipping
and packaging if you are in Alaska or Hawaii. Outside of the US, e-mail me.
If ya pick 'em up in Vegas and ride your KLR here, I'll help you swap them
for nothing and your back on the trail for 40 bucks. I am in no hurry, so
pay now and I'll hold them for ya (Besides, we need to go to the sports book
and play the ponies and NHL,NBA, etal.--hehe).
OK - back to the basics!: -
Stock KLR650 bars : Length-810mm Center Rise-75mm End Rise (height)-75mm
Clamp Area (Center) Width-205mm Sweep (pullback)-100mm
Renthal 966 bars : Length-803mm Center Rise-56mm End Rise (height)-92mm
Clamp Area (Center) Width-210mm Sweep (pullback)-57mm
Basically the 966 MX bar is a one inch higher bar (75mm stock vs. 92 mm
Renthal) and is MUCH straighter - more comfortable for guys like me who do
not like 'cruiser' bar sweeps, and I liked it off road, until I had to post
my ass on the pegs for a few hours. I was simply to forward in torso
inclination due to being a few " over 6'.
