Yes, I agree that the correlation between the 'look' of the tire and the performance on the street isn't what I would expect. I think one reason may be because the values are normalized relative to the best performers, regardless of their absolute merit. So a rating of 10 within a category might indicate a tire is the best of the bunch but still not very good in absolute terms. Mike A18

tire selection

Hi Steve...I'm currently running Karoos on my A18 and so far, I like them very much. I had to lower the air pressure by a few pounds to get rid of a squirrely sensation at freeway speeds, but other than that..good performance on/off road. I don't like mud, but what little mud I've gotten in, the Karoos hooked up pretty good. All other surfaces have been pretty comfy, however they ARE noisy on road. On kolechi gravel (larger rock size than most gravel until it gets broken down) the Karoos were fairly unstable compared to the stock Dunlops. Other tire experience on other bikes - Bridgestone Trailwings for my XT225 - great tires, won't ever buy another brand for the Serow. Kendas on the XT600 - don't like 'em, no sir, don't like 'em at all. They absolutely squirm under the bike on pavement and don't make up for their poor pavement performance on the dirt, mud or gravel. Lots of folks swear by Kendas, but I don't like 'em, my husband doesn't like 'em and my son doesn't like 'em either. Dunlop D606(I think) on the XT600 was great, just wore out really fast in sand. My experience, with Karoos in particular, has been that if you need to lower the tire pressure to make the tires less squirrely on the highway then the wheels aren't correctly aligned. On my bike the rear axle guides/rulers move around independently of the axle a fair bit and aren't very precise so getting the rear wheel to be straight enough is a bit of a black art. However, once the rear wheel is straight, then Karoos will track perfectly and feel completely stable inflated to whatever their max inflation pressure is. Also, Karoos wear fast on the highway, which makes it doubly important to be able to put lots of air in them. -Lujo Sandy wrote:

The idea of the airbag deploying all by itself while I'm admiring the scenery is a thrill I'd live longer without, and if it is as reliable as a lot of "star wars " technology, it will happen. You might refer to that idea as "over-engineering". DC Eric wrote:
