David, It depends on how rotten the brake fluid is. I have installed SS lines on most of my bikes, on several the fluid was only a couple of months old. The lines themselves really make a considerable difference. The brake hoses used by a lot of motorcycle manufacturer swell under pressure, this takes away from the feel at the lever. If you need all the travel to get decent stopping power, like on the KLR, having SS hoses will actually improve stopping performance because all of the squeezing at the lever gets transferred to the caliper. I also depends on what your definition of "decent" is. I have a friend who's first bike is a KLR, and he thinks the stock brakes are perfectly fine. I have had bikes with MUCH more powerful brakes, and I think the KLR brakes are sh*t. Galfer pads, fresh fluid, and SS lines upgrade them to "crappy". Fine for dirt, minimum acceptable for street. I can't lock a warmed-up Kenda K270 on dry pavement. Devon A15 David Kelly wrote:

Might as well yell at me also, cause I find the front brake acceptable stock also. To me the stock hose provides me with enuff feedback. I think stiffer springs in the tubes would be more needed if anything. Just my $.02 Duden
