question for multiple bike owners

Post by kcuf_oohay_666 » Sun Dec 09, 2001 10:23 am

Do you live in Northern California? The upside down prices are the same here. A 2000 Kawi zr7 or 2000 suzuki sv650 goes for $500 under what you can buy a 2002 new one for. And lets not forget the $400 slip on exhaust pipe that makes a 2000 sport bike (zx6r, zx7r, zx9r, 929, r1, ... etc) go for $2000 over list price for what it originally sold for. Saw an add for a 2001 ZX6R for $5000 in the paper. Called 2 days later. it was sold. :( There is a few deals out there but not much. My friend has a 2001 Suzuki drz400s he wants to sell for around $4000. it has about 12,000 miles on it. I might get it.

And there are a few idiots that actually buy them, I've seen used bikes sell on Ebay for more than the local dealers was selling for. Usually it seems the guy that had the bike on payment bought it at full retail and wants every penny out. But there are some deal out there. I recently saw a nearly brand new DR650 for around $3500 and it had less than 100 miles on it.Not seeing many good deal on ebay though. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? question for multiple bike owners

I see what you mean about the power/weight ratio of the complete vehicle, but what I meant was the motor specifically. How much does the GS engine weigh? how much does the 1.8l passat motor weigh? I think you'll find that the GS powerplant puts out MUCH more power based on it's weight than the car engine (don't forget to subtract the weight of the GS gearbox). This goes directly to things like reliability, extras like hydraulic valves etc. Also, a better comparison would be a goldwing motor, or the K1200 motor. The GS is an undertuned improvement on an old design, while the car motor use more modern technology. As for speed, even the most streamlined sport bike is an aerodynamic disaster compared to a passat. That's why cars get such a good top speed with a small (hp/wt) motor- above 90mph most of the work is pushing through the air, and nothing to do with the mass of the vehicle. Acceleration is all about hp/wt ratio, and it's why even economy commuter bikes can holeshot cars with no problems. Also, because of the non-critical weight considerations, the car engines are much better cooled, more heavily built, have twice the oil capacity, and they don't share the crankcase oil with the gearbox (some bikes don't do this either). Katherine, I don't have any info on Gerret, and am in Massachusetts, but hang in there. I know there are people on the list from that area, and someone will be able to do something, I'm sure. I don't know how you feel about such things, but I want you to know my wife and I will be praying for Gerret and you. Wise men still seek Him...
