synthetic oil...really!

Post by racingreplicas@orwell.net » Sun Sep 30, 2001 10:26 am

I've read A LOT of information on oil in the past 40 years that I've been a rider and two items stick in my mind. 1 Change it often (1000/1200 miles) 2 This is from a lister a couple months back who I think heard it from an uncle "oil is good, use it" Ed Windsor

I have about 5,500 miles on my A13 (no I don't get to ride as much as some of you iron butt folks) and am considering switching from Kawa-Chem motorcycle oil to a synthetic like Mobile 1. Any opinions? (another loaded question) > My decision is based partly on my riding habits, i.e. riding to work just about every day, however it is a fairly short trip (approx 4 miles). I get in an occasional jaunt off road on some local trails, and lately few and far between some 150+ mile runs on the weekends. > > Paul > Frisco, TX > > Checkout Dual Sport News at > http://www.dualsportnews.com > Be part of the Adventure! > > Visit the KLR650 archives at > http://www.listquest.com/lq/search.html?ln=klr650 > > Post message: DSN_klr650@yahoogroups.com > Subscribe: DSN_klr650-subscribe@yahoogroups.com > Unsubscribe: DSN_klr650-unsubscribe@yahoogroups.com > List owner: DSN_klr650-owner@yahoogroups.com > > Your use of Yahoo! Morning Mark, That's the one. I don't think using a 1/4' for valve work is too anal. I've used my 3/8 in/lb Husky and gotten away with it. It's range however puts the readings necessary for the valve adjustment way on its low side where the knowledgeable say their accuracy is suspect. Good Luck, Bogdan

synthetic oil...really!

I have been running Auto 15 50 Mobil 1 in my KLR since 3600 miles. I now have have 9300 miles and changed it twice. I have not noticed any clutch slipping or other problems. The bike simply runs great. I am in no way suggesting that all run this oil. This is just a report. Will I notice a difference? Who knows I probably won't keep the bike that long. One thing about none syn oil it is cheap so you can change it often. 2.5 liters plus filter is probably 10 dollars or less. That is pretty cheap insurance. One thing I have heard about syn oil is that doesn't break down at higher temps. Who knows if it does or doesn't. Change your oil it doesn't cost much.
