key won't lock forks
dr.s.One other thing you might try with the 'current' key is slight downward pressure, turn the keyslight upward pressure, turn the keyfind the most 'inserted position' and pull it out one 'click' on the tumbler and slowly insert while turning the key...
I know from personal experience, this solution, might be fraught with peril-- wink. if might just lock the forks and you will not be able to un-lock them later. (yikes). ah, AMHIK...it was not on a KLR but something else...it cured me of locking something that does not easily lock.
IRT to KLR security, Years ago, I did see a security camera, rendered to a UTube video of someone stealing a KLR with locked forks...they pushed on one handle bars with their foot until the locking-pin broke.Made one realize the KLR fork-lock is not a really secure lock.
Another video showed the thieves lifting a locked-fork KLR into a pickup; less than 1 min, start to finish.Another time, a forum member included a picture of their front wheel chained to a post, the wheel was removed and (I assume) the KLR bike was then lifted into a trailer or truck. (no video of that one).
There is the disc lock that some have used...some with a siren when the bike is moved...and then there is the 'damage' done to the bikes when a rider does not remember to remove the disc lock...no, Virginia, it was not me (this time).

key won't lock forks
Also make sure the forks aren t hitting anything before they get far enough to lock. I ve had that issue twice, once was the factory stop was a little too long. The other was a bolt head from a set of radiator guards that I installed. Greg From: DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com [mailto:DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com]
