possible trade

I really don't think ALL 2008's had oil burn issues... Although I know quiet a few that did... from what I have seen and heard they either burned oil right from the get go, like my brothers... or they didn't like mine. There was not a lot of "burns a little". Keeping in mind this is a thumper and if your using it for High Speed cruising they ALL will use more oil, it is normal. Some folks bought a KLR and took it out and rode 90mph all day long and think the bike is using too much oil. That is not the oil burning issue some of  the 2008s had. Where a local ride of 100 miles in an afternoon meant you may be down a QUART of oil at the end is what some of the 2008s were doing and Kawi said it was not an issue. Now for the Doo, I have now opened up 8 of the second generation KLR's, the newest was a 2015 with 600 miles on it, and the oldest was my 2008. The Factory doo is crap. The Springs are Crap... and from what I have seen I would not risk not just changing it out on any bike I was keeping. Still really curious if I will end up with another KLR in a trade, we will see. I think I would sell if if I did. Michael

Sorry guys but I have info that is relevent, even if it is hitting the Oil Burner and Doohickey beehives with a stick. First the Oil burning issue. Mine didnt start showing signs of it until about 16k. Then it ramped up quick. At the PB 500 I was on the sight gauge at start and 180 miles of off road, ridden very hard BTW, burned off just shy of 2 quarts. The constant bounce was enough at that low lever I guess since it siezed at speed at the end of the day. I will pull the top end off to do a 685 kit and probably port the heads while I am at it. Second is the Doo. At 16k mine was fine still. I replaced it and the spring anyways. I think it is probably something that should just get done at the 6k regardless. I watched mine to see what it would do but nothing.  Still dont have a count on 08+ Doo failures although I have heard the spring still goes soft. As far as I know the 08+ Doo is fixed unless someone had one go. Untill we know I say it gets done anyways at 6k and thats that. The spring definately needs replacement and it is only a few steps more to do the doo from that point anyways. Pre 08 is a day one job best I can figure fromo the posts. Beehive smacking mode = off.SkypilotA.K.A.
