Hey Paul,
Have you chosen a date for Tech Day yet? I guess I'm assuming you plan to
have it. And I'm not trying to rush you, just trying to be sure and have
that Saturday free so I can come.
Thanks,
Greg

On a trip to Baja, my footpeg broke off and I ended up getting it and my
centerstand welded on. It worked out fine for a few years, including
pulling the engine.
Later on, I parted out that bike and ground off the weld to remove the
centerstand and sell the frame. It worked out just fine.
And, despite what Jud says, I really like to have a centerstand on my KLR.

Ooops. Looks like I left out the bit I was referring to...
Curious because my impression is that a center stand is pretty handy for field maintenance, etc.> "Is this a good idea?" No, not because welding will hurt > the bike, but because a center stand on a KLR is a bad idea.

We might end up having to call it Cinco de Mayo, because they will probably celebrate it on the Saturday.

You don't need a center stand. Adds weight and cost for no reason. Simple trail stand works just as well and sometimes better on uneven ground for trail side repairs. You don't even need a trail stand. There is usually something laying around where you are to prop up one side of the machine in conjunction with the side stand. Simple!

Is a Banana sandwich Better with Mayo or "Miracle whip"? (Salad dressing), and are All salad dressings the same?
PS. White, Wheat, or Rye?
Thats one thing I LOVE about a KLR650, Like a "Subway Sub" there is NO "right way", And "Tomorrow" I can CHANGE IT A LITTLE OR ALOT!

This list is replete with center stand phobes. Can't you be tolerant the lifestyle of the "other" ?

So whats the reason not to have a center stand? Maintenance would be a
PITA without one IMO, and roadside would be impossible. It's never caused
any problems for me, only convenience.
