For a real kick put a strip of LED lights behind that tank and label the switch "Flux Capacitor". The nuclear green glow will be good for another 10 mph easy!

Not needed. I literally could take a hammer to my gas tank and it would just bounce off. And if I tried to file it with a coarse file it would take me a long time to do any damage beyond cosmetic scratches. Others have slid down the road at 60 MPH on theirs and suffered minor scratches to the IMS tanks. The whole point of an IMS tank is to save weight over a steel OEM tank, gain a little capacity and eliminate the need for heavy steel nerf bars. I've dropped mine on the left side many times and there is no damage to my radiator. The Marine Corps had IMS design these to protect their radiators.
Don't believe me? Get your wife's white plastic cutting board, the thick one that she loves and beat on it with your hammer to try to break it, it's the same material as IMS tanks.

Vented cap still won't work with a tank bag - fumes my good man. Don't plan on bringing the bag into the motel room if it's been sitting on a vented cap.

I believe the vents are actually under the edges of the cap, someone correct me if I'm wrong. And unless you tip over the vent won't be getting gas on your tank bag. It normally lets air into the tank as the engine uses gas. In fact, there may be a one way check valve so if you tip over it won't allow spillage.

I used to use one way valves. At some point in the past someone posted, on this very list, that it's not a good idea in the summer. Apparently he left his ride out in the sun and his tank exploded. The sun gets super hot at Colorado altitude so I took mine out. I bet that cap works well but I'd still worry about putting a tank bag on it. I do go down once in a while. If gas spilled it sure would be hard to get the smell out don't ask how I know. Also I bet some vapors would escape into the bag.

Vented cap still won't work with a tank bag - fumes my good man. Don't plan on bringing the bag into the motel room if it's been sitting on a vented cap.

I love my IMS tank, it's the translucent green and I can see the gas level thru the tank walls. Fred sells an Acerbis locking cap that has built in vents without a hose coming out of the top.

I've put 35k miles or so on said tank. I like it much better if you go down. I hated those goofy shrouds. However are you dependent on tank bags ? I am on a light bike it's important to have as much weight as possible forward. The IMS vents with a rubber
tube from the gas cap dirt bike style. Not good for putting the tank bag on top. I modified the cap so that the vertical tubing out of the cap and the first few inches when it turns horizontal is metal. Now my Wolfman rests happily.

Trail riding in the Everglades and slid thru a muddy patch into the back of my buddy's V-Strom. His exhaust took out my gas tank. Thinking of going with the IMS 6.6 gallon plastic replacement from Rocky Mtn. for $247.00. Any experience, ideas, warnings, advice
would be appreciated.
