easter dual-sport ride

There I was rippin along on the beloved KLR, engine screaming lika mixmaster on wind out. The lower gearing was delivering max torque, which was a fine good thing, as I observed a obstacle in the roadway. Not any obstacle. It was a large can. Not any can, for I could see it was unopened. Though it wasn't at either a 90 or 180 to the road I could see it was unopened since it was a new techno can-no opener needed-pull top. Also there was just enough of the label picture showing-was a large can-I saw a firm tomato thereupon. Though there was a stiff side wind I shifted my ass(connected to the bike, wasn't standing) and overcame the sail effect of my fender. Swerving with verve and abon I aimed the gyro effect with appropriate counter-steering and was aimed dead-ass center. Not knowing what would happen I closed my eyes and pinned the throttle which was dangerous at that speed. A wheelie was the last thing I needed. There was a pop, a whir, and a-don't know how to describe it noise. Opening my eyes a nano-sec later, they widened. I was in a swirl of red circles. They were with me and the bike for just a bit as I roared on. Yes, they were the thinnest tomato slices I has ever seen! Apparently the sucking vortex of the rapidly spinning wheel-none disc side- had sucked the whole tomato's into the stainless steel spokes and sliced them. Gary, In aviation, TOGA means "take-off-go-around" power, as in - it's the MAX thrust available. Sounds like a GREAT handle to me...! Ed

Welcome to the group! I kinda like the "TOGA" idea. You'll learn more about the KLR than you wanted to know. I spent the first month with my "greeny", just plain happy. Then I discovered the group and became obsessed with my "doohickey", the frame bolts, skid plate, pilot screw, front springs.....I can go on for another line or two but I hope you get the idea. These things started to keep me up at night. I was afraid to ride til I replaced my doohickey and the multitude of "inferior Kawasaki" parts reported by list members. I do enjoy reading the reports and musing of other KLR riders but it has taken me a whole year to throw a bucket of cold water on the alarmists. Ride safe and have fun. That's what the KLR is about. By thet way, I'm still trying to find out what the KLR model designation stands for. KawasakiLowRIder? KawasakiLoggingtrail/Road? Idunno.

Nice i love the black, Im new too so hello to all and welcome Pete. Im am currently selling my R6 which has way too much power and doest not do so well in the trails so want to buy a KLR as i am hearing many great things about it. On my R6 I have a scotts steering dampener that i dont know if i should sell with the bike so my question is can i use the Dampener on the KLR and is it of any use on the KLR? Im located in Ontario Canada if anyone is interested in the R6 thanks Simon.
