State Farm
2006 KLR-650: $333 / year
2002 ZRX-1200: $359 / year ($2 more per month than the KLR)
I've had State Farm for the past 13 years. I know I could get better
rates, but they've treated me well. --- Hey, wait a second... in 13
years, I've never had a claim, had just one speeding ticket about 8
years ago - didn't change my rates. I guess "treating me well" means
leaving me alone. My local agent has always been available for advice,
though.
Before that: Prudential - then Allstate, but circumstances were a lot
different. 2 new teenage drivers, me driving a sports car, 1 accident
(son), 1 violation (daughter), and a 92 mph speeding ticket (me).
Prudential "fired" me, I was put on PA Assigned Risk with Allstate, and
my insurance for just 2 cars was over $300 a month. The real problem
started when I was no longer required to be in the "Assigned Risk"
category, and PA is one of the states that does not require insurance
companies to notify you of that fact.
My current monthly bill for 3 cars and 4 bikes is less than half what it
was 15 years ago, for just 2 cars and no bikes.
The event that made me change everything insurance related was in spring
of 1999. I was rear-ended by a drunk driver at noon on a Saturday.
$13,000 damage to my car; the other driver was taken from the scene in
handcuffs. I played a round of golf with my father and brother - which
is where we were going in the first place. When it was all over, I had
paid out $2,000 more than I got for an accident that was no fault of
mine, and Allstate offered no advice on how to proceed. The car,
although repaired and looking good again, was never the same.
If this would ever happen again, I'll be on the ground writhing in pain,
holding my neck, suffer from mysterious pains all over, and probably
even have erectile dysfunction.

AAA also. They seem reasonable, but I haven't shopped around too much.
