and remember to re-jet at the same time you have stuff taken apart.  IMO if you keep the bike stock just use the .08 cent needle washer stack.  What an amazing difference for almost no money!  Worked so well I did my 02 ZRX the same way with perfect results.  Next up is to Decalifornication to a Kawasaki W650.  Hoping for the same results.....  Oh, don't forget to keep all the hardware and tubing.  One never knows living in this crazy POS politically messed up state.  If it weren't for the great riding and weather I'd leave tomorrow.

lh main race measurement?

Post by mechanizeinc » Mon Jan 18, 2010 2:16 pm

The other question you're going to have is how to remove the bearing race as I suspect the thing is glued, screwed and tattooed in there with an interference fit. If and when we do come up with the parts the following issues will arise be prepared to replace the screws holding down the bearing race cover. Be prepared to carefully destroy the old race. Freeze the new race and minimally heat the case for installation hoping it drops in but be prepared to gently drive it in. That's the easy part. The following crankshaft refurbishment steps I was going to have a qualified shop perform as $60 for a bearing seems cheap for the opportunity to completely destroy my crankshaft. Before you can pull the old bearing off the crankshaft you'll need to pull the cam and balancer chain gears. Mark them in their current location so they can be reinstalled exactly where they were from the factory. I was hoping to advance the cam gear a degree or a few for performance on a big bore stage II engine build. Obviously if you're going through this much trouble you should replace the rod bearings as well, especially since I think you HAVE to separate the crankshaft assembly in order to press on the roller bearing without destroying the crank. I COULD do it myself. But I'd have to fabricate fixtures to properly align things before pressing them together and I'd rather send it to someone that's done it 1000 times. Mech

All that's mentioned is crankshaft runout. What do ya do if the race in the LH case is defective, buy cases? Does anyone repair cases? Is the KLR rebuildable except for this main bearing? > How do you check the condition of the LH bearing? I believe the book says "look at it". I have extra cases and crankshafts that I would like to check. Can you still get the replacement bearings for the older KLR and use them in a 97 or later engine? > As you might have guessed, I'm a bit cheep I would love to hear from some experienced KLR mechanics. It may be that the true LH race measurement is known only to a very select group of KLR scientist. I know that enough money will replace the engine ( crankshaft and cases). I was hoping for rebuildable. If you buy new cases (about $600.00), it would be foolish not to replace the crankshaft (another $5-600.00) at the same time. If you have experience with this please share your insight. sorry If you noticed this post on another fourm, I'm fishing for information. > Thanks RB >
