for 2003 and 2005 KLR's is the Clymer service manual enough or should one also keep the two oem service manuals on hand. just wondering if any has experience working with both where the after market makes the oem manuals unnecessary in this case or are there enough things in the oem that one should have all three in case of need. generally i like service manuals but thought maybe i should spend the extra money in this case. thanks for any feedback you can offer.

<><><><><><><> <><><><><><><> Todd, I have a 2003 KLR650 and both factory manuals and the Clymers manual. If I was only going to have one manual it would be the Clymers. The Clymers really does a pretty good job of providing the information you need and in many cases it's easier to locate than in the factory manuals. The Clymers also gives some pretty good and easy to understand explanations of systems and procedures. The factory manuals require you to flip around in many cases just to figure out the most recent information. They also only give you basic instructions and expect you to be knowledgeable enough to figure out how to properly use the info provided. cams
I received a reply from TPI. Dyno showed a 6HP increase and increase in the torque curve. MPG statement was "all hotter cams reduce MPG but this one is not enough to notice."
Reasonable response.
Yes, I agree that you would gain top end HP at the expense of low end HP. i would also expect a shifting of the torque curve to the right - but perhaps only a slight increase of torque. If a fellow had the extra time and $$$...this sounds like it could make for fun building.
685/705 mod, tuned carb and exhaust, hot cam kit and sprockets to match the torque curve. Throw in a KLX 1st gear in the primary and you would have that Track KLR!
If anyone is close to doing the 685/705 mod, I would be interested in the results of both cam and head kit. Of course, I don't have the extra $500 to chip in on the cams at this time.
