My 2003 kept coming loose from the back of the speedometer.   I have not had a problem since I tightened with a good set of pliers....... I'll get it fixed under warranty but I was curious if this was a common problem. Thanks Col

On my 08 the trip odometer quit at 8760 km in Norhern Ontario, Luckily the main odometer and the speedometer kept going. It was replaced under warranty, but since I had just started a cross-Canada trip there was 21560 km on the clock when it was done. Now I have an 08 which has crossed Canada, (Ucluelet to St Johns' Nfld) and back that has 6890 km on the speedo. Must have done a lot of wheelies. DC martha2001au wrote:

Col, Check the speedo cable where it attaches to the speedo-head. If it's separated, use blue Loctite on it, then tighten it. Ed

I was at a "Kawasaki" dealershipa couple weeks ago. Just out of curiosity I started to ask about trading my KLR, which is in excellent shape. I was told by the owner my KLR was an undesirable motorcycle because it has 21,000 miles on it.   Rick A17 From: D Critchley To: martha2001au Cc: DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com Sent: Sun, December 6, 2009 8:56:38 AM Subject: Re: [DSN_KLR650] speedo On my 08 the trip odometer quit at 8760 km in Norhern Ontario, Luckily the main odometer and the speedometer kept going. He is probably telling you the truth as he sees it.

I think what he means is most motorcycles I sell won t accumulate that mileage in their lifetime so most of my buyers will think that motorcycle is worn out

My A16 is still thumping after 65K miles but I would not expect any dealer to want it on trade.

Don't you know motorcycles are worn out once they go over 10,000 miles?  :-P   Seriously? 21k made it undersirable in your dealerships eyes? Geez.   I can show him examples of how wrong that is. Two customers come to mind. They use my friend's independent shop for regular maint. One has a 93'(?) ZX6 that from 20 feet away, could easily be mistaken for a nearly new bike. It runs perfectly, doesn't smoke, rattle or do anything odd. I'd ride it anywhere. That Kaw. has over 80,000 miles on the clock with only standard maintenance, new fork springs, rear shock & clutch. The other bike is a 3 year old Hayabusa. It's owner commutes from Columbus, Ga. to Atlanta and back on it. Last time I saw  it, it had 106,000 miles and was going fine.   eddie
