1.5mm is not a lot of runout. I had a similar problem when I put Cheng Shin C858 tires on my KLR. There was something very wrong when I took it for a ride. I spun the rear wheel to check it, similar to your description. It was straight. Then I did the same thing and checked the tire itself. It was not straight. I had broken the bead wires in the tire while putting it on. Anyone who has installed a C858 knows how hard they are to mount. New tire solved that problem, and a lesson learned. I've had wobbling issues on my bike while following traffic at speed. Tire air pressure was the major part of the solution. It never feels "solid" whenever following cars and trucks at freeway speeds. On a calm wind, no traffic day and a smooth road, I can take my hands off the handle bars and the bike will continue straight. No shakes or instability at all. Mike klr6502k wrote:

Lighten up the rear shock wandering/unstable klr650 90kph 55mph Posted by: "klr6502k" klr6502k@... klr6502k Tue Aug 11, 2009 12:45 pm (PDT) my 2000 klr650 has developed a wandering/unstable issue if following any kind of traffic over 90kmh (55mph) within 150 meters(yards) my bike gets very unstable. the handle bars shimmy and the bike goes back and forth as if i was in the draft of a semi truck. even a strong cross wind can cause the effect.

I recently had a stability problem which felt like a weave at around 70-75 mph. I got rid of it by replacing the rear shock. It appears that my aftermarket shock had lost its air charge. Dan

Just want to be sure, since no one else has asked. Did you get a new riding jacket or any other gear that might be affecting your aerodynamic profile? da Vermonster

This sounds like too much rear sag to me. The rear spring has insufficient preload, or it is too soft. Another possibility is too much rebound damping, allowing the rear to pack down. The front end gets too light and turbulence or a cross wind sets it off.
