That's what I do, used to leave at 5:00AM and had to run red lights in two spots on the way to work, one was easy as you could see but the other was at a bottom of a hill and could not see well to the right, didn't see any headlights and zooom................> > In Virginia, I believe there is a law that allows motorcycles to > cautiously proceed through a red light if the sensor does not pick up > the presence of a motorcycle. A significant percentage of intersections in PA are "NO TURN
ON RED", so I'd be breaking the law anyway.
I do as you described when I can - but U-Turns are frequently
both dangerous and illegal. In this part of the country, there are
a lot of blind spots, hills, curves, etc.
The most safe thing to do is to turn right, make the next left
turn, find a place to turn around, then go back to the intersection
that you originally wanted to go through. That's what I usually
do.
In many examples, the most safe way is to break the law: go
through the red after checking carefully in both directions,
just as if it were a stop sign.

FWIW a "motordriven cycle" is a bike with a assist motor that helps
turn the wheel, otherwise its called a motorcycle.

Dooden,
Yeah, I know, but the way the law is worded sounded curious and caught my
attention.

Mike, and all,
{Been 'lurking' for a month or so . . . got an IMMACULATE 2003 KLR650 end of
December, and have been doing some 'research' before April 'Safety Class' &
riding season.}
WHERE in PA ? Looking for some local KLR riders that I can 'get some
learning' from. Now to the 'Subject under discussion' . . .
In my research I keep seeing advertized, by several manufacturers, devices
that claim to do exactly what you are discussing. Yet I haven't 'heard' any
of them mentioned. Are they ALL so much bilge? I KNOW there are such devices
. . . ambulances and other emergency vehicles have them to get all 'Green'
lights on their runs.

Don,
That's what I had in mind {mentioned in my first comment}, and the legality was also my concern.
Ron
PS - just looked at your photo album - 'Moonscapes' . . . really looked good !!

But I would think that it might be / would be illegal for civilian use. Sorry about the delay getting back to you. After finding an 'advert' that went into a little more description, I didn't realize that they ALL worked via the magnetic field. {the 'methodology' seems to use a very weak MAD system}. What I had in mind was an ELECTRONIC system that 'spoke' with the light controller. The sensitivity of the light trigger antenna buried in the pavement is set too low to pick up a motorcycle, so it never turns green. It might work if you carried a powerful 50 pound magnet under the engine but these little store-bought units are a waste of money. [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

If one actually owned and used a device that would take command of the
Opticom systems on intersections, I'm sure it would be illegal. Other
systems may be used in other areas of the country but at least in
central Iowa most are Opticom systems. Google Opticom for more information.
I just mention this because I think some one mentioned on demand lights.

While looking for that on Google also do it for 'schematic for traffic light changer' or click here http://www.i-hacked.com/index.php?option=content&task=view&id=176 Of course I would never break the law and create on of these and test it only to find that it's not perfect and will only work if you are pointing DIRECTLY at the.........oops TMI.......................... Like I have said before, when I was working, leaving around 5;30AM, would have to wait, ALWAYS at only two lights, first on I would run or turn right and right again, the next one I would wait about 30 seconds double check both ways and went right through it, after all those lights are recommendations right?> > Posted earlier: > > If one actually owned and used a device that would take command of the > Opticom systems on intersections, I'm sure it would be illegal. Left off NKLR on purpose...
