I believe so. However, I am just a dumbass KLR rider, and don't know nothing for certain. But I think so.

It won't bolt up.

Actually, I meant to just say frame because I think the subframe is identical. The lugs are the welded-on plates to which the Tengai's bottom fairing piece (belly pan) mounts to. The KLR has other ones, for its plastic dogshit shovel, I mean "skid plate". But then again, I am only guessin about some of this stuff...there are knowledgable experts who will offer their MENSA powers upon their return from the desert.

Hello everyone I am new to the list. I have a 2002 two day old klr650. So far 130 miles I love it. Is there any thing that I should watch out for or any improvements that I can make? I mainly use it for commuting 20 miles one way to work. I will be riding 400 mile plus trips to Mexico with a friend and his BMW fl650. Thanks for any help. TC P.S. I am sorry my name is TONY CORNETT Bakersfield,CA

Real open questions, but replace the shift lever it "will" break, make sure the dealer set the bike up right. The chain isn't too tight, the forks tops are about flush with the triple clamps, bolts are tight, etc. etc. Check out the files/database etc for a "lot" of info. Welcome and I'd be sorry too if my last name was Bakersfield, CA. Brad A15

Greetings, all! I just sold my 2004 Yamaha FJR1300 and I'm planning on buying a DP, almost 95% sure a KLR, and I just joined the list. I live in St. Petersburg, FL and I've been riding street bikes for 25 years. This list is great! I've read alot, and done most of the basic research on the KLR. I'm pretty sure it's the bike for me. Has anyone removed the fairing of the KLR650 and gone with an old-school headlight setup? Anybody have any pictures or links? Some guys on the Yamaha FZ1 Owner's Association forum have made naked streetfighters out of the half-faired FZ1, and they look great. One method was to use SV650 headlight brackets and a fabricated bracket for the instruments. Does anyone know if the instrument cluster of the KLR is sealed from the elements in the back by the fairing? Would removing the fairing require re-sealing of the unit from moisture? Thanks in advance, and I'm really looking forward to getting a new bike! Regards, Paul __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! --- Alright, that's enough. First we have a thread about waxing the KLR. Then we have a thread about washing the KLR. Now this. I find these posts disturbing. Paul, the proper KLR mentality is not to care what your bike looks like. This is a very important aspect of KLR ownership. Most of us barely care when parts fall off, and we don't care at all if they are cosmetic parts. So if you can get your fairing to fall off all by itself, that's fine. BTW, I have an SV650 naked headlight if you decide to try it on a KLR, and I would love to see what it looks like. If you find out it helps get chicks then forget everything I said above. Randy

KLR mentality = don't ask - just do it & ride it & tell everyone else if it works :)

Sealed cluster? It's probably supposed to be, but my tach has dust on the dial and has been home to a small spider. __Arden --- In DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com, "Paul E. Gerle" wrote: snippp...

Welcome to the group Paul. The KLR ain't no FJR, but then the FJR ain't a KLR either. These are two different bikes, both at the top of their respective list. I started out with a BMW R90/6 for a cruiser (still have it) figuring the KLR would be for short jumps, the beemer for highway. The BMW gets very little use these days. I'm thinking of dumping it and just buying more "farkle" for my KLR.

Yeh Randy, I've noticed what a "chick magnet" the KLR is. The scruffy look may work for Bret Favre or Clint Eastwood but not so with the KLR. I have to rely on my own natural good looks to get the chicks' attention. Maybe I should consider bike mods?

Man I bought a used one, the '95 with the teal / purple color combo. It's a fantastic flashback, I'm going to Goodwill to try and find some old "OP" or "Hobie" beach shorts, or maybe even some "Jams" to go with it. Really cool, I expect the honeys will be chasing me around like crazy. Ok, maybe not. But it should be fun to ride, anyway. Like mopeds and um . . . well, you know the joke, right? --- Mike Peplinski wrote:
