Get either one in a real mudhole and you're f*&ked. If you don't ride with a bunch of guys, choose your terrain wisely. Bring enough people to bodily lift whatever you're riding off the ground. Devon> > People can pick up Wings; what's one of >these in comparison? > >-Lujo >

Oh, and don't forget the OSHA boys - compliance w/ regulation for
horizontally impaired equipment is warranted - My R80 BMW, when it went
down, was required by OSHA to have OSHA personnel supervise the vertical
alignment process

There seems to be some weird attraction between these two bikes as I have customers that flip flop between the two constantly. Lugo, Most of us, on the real, as the kids may still say, can upright most
anything we were once astride of. SOoooo, we want you to, at any givin time,
to be all that you can be, and be there for those that have an issue in
righting there horizontal ride. Oh, buy the way, setting my prior R80
upright on the vertical was doable alone, with all the pleasure of a spoke
polishing and a hat flip.

This has come up a bunch of times, but it's not even figuratively true. I've picked up a KLR a bunch of times. I've picked up a GS a couple of times. The GS isn't particularly harder to pick up than the KLR. Both are heavy enough that picking them up isn't my favorite form of exercise, and both can be picked up easily enough that I'm not worried about not being able to do it. Hey, Dooden....
You missed the boat on this one. After 3.5 years I still am loving
the GS! Mainly because it is better two up.
No problems so far as service goes.
But, I still have a soft spot for the KLRs.

I'm waiting to see the 800 GS. The '08 mods pep up the KLR a bit, but
it still lacks that zip-by-on-the-double-yellow passing power. The
1200 is a great bike, but too big for me.

The 53HP is marketing HP. I've ridden a 650GS. It has more power than a KLR, but not *that* much more power, and has just as much vibration in the handlebars. The other issue with the G650 is the fact that there's no "there" there behind the rider, so it's difficult to see how you'd outfit it for adventure touring. It's more an afternoon play bike than a bike you'd use to ride the length of the Trans-America Trail, in other words. And if I wanted an afternoon playbike, I'd run off and grab a Suzuki DR400 or something, not something as expensive as a BMW.> you can believe the spec), a great suspension, and 53 HP. Since
Again, an afternoon play bike. Plus one that's almost impossible to get parts and accessories for. I've owned an exotic vehicle before. Never again. Never again. Gimme something with parts falling off every parts counter and accessories dripping off every tree, thank you! I'd get a Suzuki DR650 before I got the TE. -E> Or for about $900 less you could get the Husqvarna TE610
