many thanks
Many thanks to Greg, David, Zach, Jeff and anyone I
overlooked for chiming in with responses to my
camchain questions. You guys rock! Thanks to you I am
reasonably confident that the KLR's valve timing is
not out. On to the next step; checking for sticky
valves and adequate compression. I know there are no
air filter issues, there's a clean new UNI in there.
The young PO did remove the CA smog equipment so I
need to be sure there are no vacuum leaks but I rode
it like that during my first 100 smiles and all seemed
well. The big tube on the airbox is not plugged and I
read that it should be so that's on the to-do list. I
guess that means it was sucking in unfiltered air, but
the 100 miles were all street. I've cleaned the carb
twice and checked the petcock and replaced the vacuum
line so I'm pretty sure the fuel is flowing. I see
nice blue sparks at the plug when it's out and
touching the cylinder. Wish I had X-ray vision to see
what's going on inside that combustion chamber. David
asked if the doo was done and it's not, so it'll get
done and the woodruff key and rotor checked out before
long.
Where can I get one of the new style doo springs, the
non-compression type? (radial, torsion, I forgot its
name). Does Fred have them?
Thanks again. There's Nothing like the collective
knowledge and experience of an owner's group.
