That can work too unless the masking tape rolls over and leaves a bit in the seal. Ask how I know. (VBG) Probably I'm not as careful. IMO plastic electrical tape works better but both methods push the dirt in further. I prefer to use a hook shaped tool like the Motion Pro to scrape the dirt up and out of the seal. This is likely a faint hope on a boot equipped bike but still dirt gets in there. On the older Wings, we used to scrape dried bug varnish off the exposed fork tube and had to scrape it up and out of the seals. When the bike was fitted with fork boots the issue didn't seem to arise. Wings generally operate in a cleaner environment than KLRs though. (VBG) Norm
