touring bags reccomendations needed (long)

Post by fasteddiecopeman » Thu Mar 31, 2005 12:33 pm

I 'did' Alaska on my '03 Bandit last June. I bought a waterproof white water duffle bag ( made by WORLD FAMOUS, $44 Canadian) that's 29" x 15" that carried my tent, two sleeping bags and a self-inflating matt, strapped laterally across the passenger part of my seat with two BIG bungee cords, a pair of TRAVEL BAGS soft saddle bags for clothes, rain gear, oil, etc ($150 Cdn), a Joe Rocket tank bag for my stove, camera, 3 days grub and Deep Woods Off, and I had a back pack with a 100 oz 'camel-back' and a few other things. We were on-the-road 19 days (from Calgary) and camped EVERY night, and had three days of SERIOUS rain. I wore old '75 era MX boots, a Teknic leather jacket and chaps, and Nelson-Riggs 2 piece rain suit w/ rubber gauntlets over my leather gloves when it rained, and NEVER got wet! I had a home-made electric vest which I HIGHLY recommend. If you want more info/pics e- mail me separately and I'll send them. LOVED the trip - and I bought the KLR so that, next time, I could go to Inuvik (750 kms of dirt from Dawson City, Yukon). By the way, my partner, madmotorcyclist2001 on this list, ALSO got a KLR! Ed
