There is just little incentive for Kawi to make updates as long as sales
continue to be good which they seem to be and as long as the bike is meeting
emission requirements. Another lister recently speculated on sales
volume
based on the VIN numbers and I contacted Kawi's PR dept to see if they
would
confirm those numbers. They would not but did tell me that the KLR 650 is
the
biggest selling dual sport model on the US market.

Lets hope it continues to be the best selling DS model on the US market as
it increase the likelihood that Kawasaki will provide an updated version
targeted to it's established niche.
For myself, while I can see room for so many improvements, I'm not all that
unhappy with what I've got. If we are stuck waiting for an updated KLR, at
least the KLR we are stuck with ain't bad. A good number of listers have been
riding KLRs for 7, 8, 10 years or more and we've watched this bike evolve into
a cult classic. Yep, that is what the venerable, totally old school KLR has
become, a cult classic. You look around and an increasing number of owners hav
e found the KLR to be THE bike in their stable. As I've read folks ideas on
how to make it better I think the best way to sum up my wishes is I'm not
looking for a radical new bike, I want something you could better describe as an
evolutionary change. Just what we got today, just more so.

Add a 14t sprocket on the front and a 45 or so on the rear.. Pretty close to a high strung creeper gear, but the ride there is going to be buzzy if you expect more than 55 mph or so... plus I have Kenda 270's which add to the excitment. Going straight on pavement is about as boring as it gets to me anyway. Dooden A15 Green Ape> I'd really like to see a creeper gear added, while leaving the rest of > the gears alone.
