You don't get it... Randy Weaver was f*&ked over because he changed his mind about being a snitch for the FBI. By the way, the last time I checked, having a strong anti-government stance wasn't a crime. This alleged sex offender in Nebraska was already a convicted f-e-l-o-n and had a warrant out for his arrest. What I was saying was that the cops certainly shouldn't have shown up at this guy's house like Girl Scouts pushing cookies. You mean the one who played dress-up on the aircraft carrier and
declared
"Misson Accomplished"?

Mark, you didn't get my comment. Randy Weaver definitely got screwed, and the FBI's response to the situation was overkill to the max--literally. The mention of the term "anti-government" was used as one of the elements in conjunction with the weapons issue that "might" justify a more aggressive response, but not in Weaver's case. The point was that in Weaver's case, he had clearly committed a f-e-l-o-n-y, was known to be armed and had made statements on his willingness to use arms, and was "holed up" in a manner that was going to make it hard to get him. This still, in my opinion, did not warrant the kind of action he got from the FBI--a little more stealth, finesse, and/or just waiting for a better opportunity and time would have been more appropriate. My point was that the police shouldn't just go do a "Ruby Ridge" on some dirtbag because he's wanted or a suspect unless the crime warrants that kind of potentially violent action. Surprisingly most heinous crimes against children involve people who don't represent much of a threat to police or even other adults when they're confronted. Calling out the SWAT team every time a suspect needs to be questioned or even arrested isn't feasable even though the crime may anger us greatly. We think our taxes are too high now, just wait until we'd get the bill for massive police response to every felony case they work on. All I was trying to say was that it ain't a perfect world and selecting the perfect police response to every situation has to be balanced by concerns of safety, economics, and law--and even then, it sometimes goes south. I'm in no way minimizing the catastrophic results of this incident that killed some fellow motorcyclists. As I said earlier, we don't know much detail about this case, and indeed there may be some aspect of the police response that could have been handled better. I just think your initial judgement of the police action is unfair. All f-e-l-o-n-s are not created equal and don't require an M1 Abrams busting through the front door. I think some countries still do that as SOP, but thankfully we've still got a few liberties left here. Better than the one that came back from Nam and protested against it. Or better yet just about every time ole Demmy Billy Clinton started to catch flak.. on alert we would go and toss a couple million dollar bottle rockets at somebody to divert the media's attentions elsewhere. Again these are my views, apparently not yours, but im cool with that, and no longer wearing the uniform.
