I've been using the gas tank mod for around three years, I don't think its
worth the trouble.
I sometimes have fuel starvation, reserve is only good for 5 to 10 miles,
and can't use an inline fuel filter. Its easier to just lay the KLR on its
left side if the extra fuel is needed.
I'd rather have a fuel gauge.

gas tank mod
Yo, Harry,
Did you use the internal hose w/ brass sinker or add the second
external drain line welded or brazed to the bottom of the RHS of the
tank?
Thanks,
Mark

gas tank mod
I used an internal hose with a bronze filter and a small horseshoe magnet
(to keep everything in place during a crash).

Someone mentioned the name of a lister who modified his gas tank to make both sides useable, instead of just the side with the petcock. Any ideas? help replacing oe exhaust
Hi Devon,
Thanks for the e-mail, the reason I m looking for a full stainless steel system is purely cosmetic. I m turning my KLR into a supermoto and hope to post pic s and info on the site when it s finished. James Hoving posted details of how to get hold of a Big Gun Quiet system so I m most likely going to get that. Any ideas how loud it is? On the question of the hunt for power I m not going down that route, a lot of crap for a few bhp. But as I did some road racing a few years ago and I know how to set up an engine I think I m going to try and improve the throttle response. This maybe just a simple job of putting a 14t sprocket on the front drive shaft. I ve seen a few e-mails of people that have removed the cylinder base gasket to increase compression, did anybody have any sealing problems and any problems with the clearance between the piston crown and valves.

Most people don't bother replacing the headpipe since it's
single-walled and seems to flow OK. It looks like sh*t, but
it takes slightly longer to rot away than the rest of the
bike so it's only a cosmetic issue. Somebody tried ceramic
cloth pipe wrap on their header and the headpipe split, but
that seems to be an isolated incident.
Putting on a pipe doesn't seem to wake up the KLR motor like
changing cans on XRs and DR650s supposedly does. Why are you
replacing it? Has it started to "tweety"? Do you just object
to having a boat anchor for an exhaust?
There's a cheap fix for the whistling, you don't have to
replace the pipe. Though the Pro Duro is the only
aftermarket pipe I know of that doesn't break eardrums,
doesn't need repacking, and gives (slightly) better power
than stock.
It's extremely unlikely that the KLE (twin) or KLX
(different engine design) would have a compatible headpipe.
The Tengai is a better guess since the motor is the same.
You could always have your headpipe bead blasted and then
paint it again.

I was about to put my money down when I looked at the small print, you only get the end-can, I think you Yank s call it a muffler (always thought that was something you could do to a woman, sorry I digress) and the intermediate pipe. So what about the front section of pipe connecting to the engine, who manufactures a complete system? I ve seen complete systems for KLE 500, KLX 650 anyone know if they would work? What about a Tengai system. All info would be appreciated, but some of the systems you use over the pond my not be legal here in the UK. > > Regards All, > > > Andy KLR 650-C8 (UK2002) >
