supertrapp ids2 tinkering...
There's lots to like about the Big Gun. They're light, come with a
header pipe, the ceramic coating is trick. But a long day of 80+mph
riding caused the packing in mine to melt. From there, the material
around the rivets connecting the can to the collector pipe failed
causing the two pieces to separate. A couple of holes melted through
the plastic body panel. A mess for sure. I was running a BG with a
quiet core and the packing only had a couple of hundred miles on it.
Paul at Big gun was fair in replacing the can for $70 and threw in a
couple packing kits too. He also drilled out the quiet core a bit to
keep things cooler. I've since gone to the Laser Pro and though a bit
heavier, I love it. Another beautiful piece, no more packing and not
too loud.

I've been using a SuperTrap and its load and has no spark arrestor - I was
hoping for a little less noise and safety. Still too load you think. Well
I've got it now so I guess I'll try it, I've had 3 KLR's before - al with
STraps. I would like a little more power and I guess the noise thing is the
trade off.
Regards,
Hoge

cover over the airbox opening
Do you mean the Left side plastic. The right side door is to service
the air filter. the small piece of clastic over the left side intake
(towards the back of the seat). is to hold the smog hoses for the
California bikes. Do you have a charcoal canister? If not then you
probably don't need it.
