Yeah, that's right. I'm into long distance riding and was attempting to keep up with the Iron Butt Rally. I had just left Madison Alabama and was headed for Pamona CA. The engine problem developed in southern Mississippi. I drew inspiriation from another long distance rider, Leon Begeman - rider of a 250 Ninja dressed up like a John Deere. He has had various engine difficulties through the years but has the policy if the engine keeps running he keeps riding. I made the trip home in 30 hours and picked up my backup bike, a K1200LT. I was able to make the second IBR checkpoint in Sunnyside WA. I don't think the engine problem is related to the balancer. There was no more vibration than usual. The sidestand switch has been disabled since the bike was 6 months old. If it was a fuel starvation problem I wouldn't expect the clanging noise to be immediate when I bring up the rev's. There would be a little delay as the float bowl is emptied. The first thing I'm going to check is the valve springs. I'm thinking one may have become weak and I was floating a valve at 5000 rpm. Anyone ever hear of something like that? Regards, Pete Dean Minnetonka MN> I'm sorry, did I misunderstand you?
