You CAN get more power and still maintain 50+ mpg.
I have not dynoed my 99 KLR, but my buddy has dynoed his identical
bike and is making 39 rear wheel HP.
I weigh more than he does by at least 20 lbs and my bike w/me is
slightly faster than his. I get a consistent 52+ mpg.
We both have Dyno Jet kits, airbox mods, & stock exhaust mods.
I have also removed the screen from the airbox.
I'd guess my bike is at least at 40 HP.
