It appears to me, and I could be wrong, if installed correctly the load is taken on by the plate that runs the entire width of the frame. The mounting points should only keep the stand base from moving around. It is important to have this area completely clean so the stand fits perfectly against this plate. If not, you put a load on the mounting bolts. I was impressed when mounting mine that this was taken into consideration when manufacturing the stand. I thought it was a work of art. Biker Mike

Yes, the dead load is taken through the mating surfaces, but when the bike rocks back and forth I can only imagine the stress transferred through the bolts. When the bike is loaded it seems worse. Stuart

Group, Thanks for helping me make a decision on a centerstand. I ordered a centerstand from Dual-Star 8/23/00 and have yet to receive it. First I was told 4-6 weeks, then I was told I should receive it sometime the first two weeks of October. Now, I am told sometime before Christmas. I am also waiting on a pair of mirrors that I ordered the first of August. And yes, ya'll have heard me bitch before about the "problem" at Dual-Star. Today after reading the "bad reports" on the Dual-Star centerstand, I will cancel my order(s). Dual-Star has not impressed me in the least.....   steve A-15 NW, NC

I got a Dual Star centerstand about a year ago and up until recently have been very pleased with it. The problem is that I have noticed that the height the stand lifts the bike is getting gradually lower. I am now at the point where the rear wheel is barely off the ground and I can no longer pull the wheel off without removing the brake caliper. I took the stand off today to inspect it and found that the point at which the legs of the stand contact the base plate has been pushed in slightly from the pressure the legs exert on the metal when the bike is raised. The thing is that the only time I use the stand is for maintenance, and I am surprised that something like his could occur with such infrequent use. Has anyone else on the list experienced this problem? I would like to here from you before I contact Dual Star to see if they would help me. Eric A12

YES I and some others have experienced the same thing. They will generally replace or refund, but there is no fix last I heard.

Hi Eric, I just went through the same thing with my DS stand. I returned the stand to them and they did "repair" it. I put the repair in quotes because they just put a couple of weld beads on the stand legs where it hits the cross brace. They did not replace the bent cross brace. The stand works better now, but I don't think it is as good as it was when new. Call them up. Return the stand and be patient. Good Luck, Jim

Well I boxed the stand up to get it ready to ship back to Dual Star tomorrow. Looks like from the responses I got that I'm not the only one that this happened to. It's too bad because with the exception of this one flaw the stand is really a well designed and machined part. OK now does anyone have any suggestions on where I might get a basic lift for my bike? I saw a simple mechanically activated one with a hydraulic damper made by EMGO at a local motorcycle accessory shop for 83 bucks today. Only problem was it looked to be too tall for the KLR when it was retracted. Anyone know of a lift that will fit under my 10 inch, (measured), bikes clearance.
