is the klr dead?

Post by Steve Swedhin » Fri Oct 06, 2000 7:13 pm

There really isn't any reason to carry unless you are law enforcement (except maybe Arkansas-RE:Deliverance statement) such as I. If you are carrying to protect yourself from bears, a louder bike is more effective than a handgun. The loud pipes will generally scare them off before you get to them. You'll not have time to react to shoot to scare or wound, and a handgun is ineffective against the kevlar like properties of bear fur. I'm sorry if I came across wrong, I should have also stated that law enforcement must carry in the commencement of their duties. There are law enforcement officials that patrol trails. However, for recreational use, I don't carry and do not necessarily condone anyone carrying while trail riding. There are just too many thing that can go wrong. Thanks for the email. "Swede" Swedhin.

Jeez, wound up a little tight are you? Your thread mutated after several responses to the original question and nobody got around to changing the subject matter. That happens, sorry it gives you so much grief but maybe you ought to see a therapist or something. They have medication for that kind of problem. Joe S 96 KLR 650

And it is my fault. I was newly returning to the list and made a comment in jest that mutated the thread. Did anybody besides Chris get the joke?
> .... is the KLR gonna die this year or what??????
Direct answer: Nobody on this list knows. Every year this speculation floats around. There were also rumors this year that the Connie would be shelved this year and it was not. Speculation is that they build a batch of these bikes every year and sell all they import so it would be unlikely they would quit taking the money. To reiterate, that is only speculation based on my 2-3 years experience. On another note, if you want one, don't fart around. I decided in May of 99 that I would like to have one and almost didn't get one. I figured this was America and I could walk into a store and buy one whenever I wanted to. Fact is, they import a batch and that is it until the next year's production run. You get one or you wait. Some areas of the country they languish and others they sell out. So in reality, your question on if they are or if they aren't doesn't really matter. If they drop it you are screwed because all of the Y2Ks are sold already and they only way you will know they are dropped is when they don't bring any in. Mark McCoy

it comes to mind that we're approaching this problem the wrong way. you don't need someone smart, you need someone big enough to hold the bike upside down and shake really hard... 8^) _pete - not a big help..
