Soc a Sportster is part of your SS1000 equation? Why didn't you say so in the first place? I amend my recommendation to do the ride on an ST1100, GoldWing or K1200LightTruck for comfort. Take a pickup truck. Chris Lawson> The other two are riding a Harley Sportsters and a Kawasaki Concours.

a saddle soar 1000 - anybody run one lately
I haven't done one lately but did one on Oct 7th back in '95 there is a
write-up on the IronButt Association website:
http://www.ironbutt.com/intro/ss/ss1000lg.html
There have been several successful saddlesores, Bunburners and in '93 Doug
Packard on a 1990 KLR actually finished the IronButt Rally in 10th place. I
attempted it in '97 only to have mechanical failure before the first
checkpoint. (Actually it was my fault, I overloaded the bike and the rear
shock failed making it impossible for me to adjust the chain.) Don't know if
anyone remembers that, I was madly emailing the list from the parking lot of
the starting line when I found the dealer had installed the tie rod bolts
backwards and they were rubbing on the chain =8^0.
Anyway, If you look around on the IBA website you'll find plenty of info
there, I think I have the first "official" Saddlesore on a KLR in the IBA,
but Peter Dean is the most prolific KLR rider. His email id is:
PMDean650@..., He's a decent enough guy and I've corresponded with him
many times in the past.
Is this your first Saddlesore or your first on a KLR?
Good luck and come back alive,
Jim Barthell
