I bought a defective EBC oversized front rotor kit for my 2004. I had to grind down the caliper relocation bracket so it would fit. There was still a problem because the relocation bracket was soft aluminum and grinding it gave me fewer threads. When I had to change the seals on my front forks, I stripped the caliper relocation bracket despite torquing it correctly. Somebody told me to contact EBC which I did and they sent me the whole new and improved oversized front rotor kit NOW CALLED CONTOURED...So, I cannot complain too much. I did manage to put 20k miles on the defective one but it was a hassle. I definitely recommend oversized front rotors for older KLRs that are ridden on the street. EBC brake pads are excellent but often pricey. Generic good quality sintered (semi-metallic) pads are all over the place and cheap. You only have to fork out the big bucks for front pads if you are trying to make up for not enough swept area/front stock small rotor.
