The penny will corrode before the battery terminal. http://blog.nwautos.com/2010/09/was_the_old_penny_trick_with_the_car_battery_just_a_dream.html I can only surmise this works with regualr batteries and not sealed units. =) eddie PS: More> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galvanic_anode

The bike pulls hard and runs well with 400km before reserve.   I checked the valves in the spring and they were in the middle of the spec. Air filter cleaned. Seafoam run for two tanks.   WD 40 sprayed on intake boot makes no change. It is strange, like the RPM when they drop to idle seem good, then later its low, next day its fine. Any ideas?   Crash <><><><><><> <><><><><><>   Crash,   If I was working this issue I would first suspect the petcock vacuum shutoff diaphragm.  If it is leaking fuel into the vacuum line it will often cause a low idle from an over rich mixture.  Many owners turn up the idle to compensate.  That opens the throttle butterfly which adds air leaning the mixture but causing a higher than desired idle speed.   Next time you have the low idle, stop the engine and immediately remove the vacuum line from the back of the petcock and look inside.  If it is anything but dry as in damp or dripping fuel it indicates the diaphragm is leaking.   The fix for a leaking petcock diaphragm is to replace it with the stock part, replace the petcock with a manual petcock or install a petcock blockoff plate setup on the stock petcock and convert it to manual operation.  I'm guessing Fred has the stock part or a manual replacement petcock.  I sell a blockoff plate setup.   Best, Jeff Saline The Beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota 75 R90/6, 03 KLR650 . . . . . .     ____________________________________________________________ Odd Trick Fights Diabetes "Unique" Proven Method To Control Blood Sugar In 3 Weeks. Galvanic annodes:Seems to me they are use often on outboard motors, (sea water? usually?) I would think it has to do with escaping h2so4 (is that right, grin) sulfuric acid 'gas/fumes' attaching to the penny, rather than the battery post. Is that what you are thinking?m1. who is freaking scary! it is h2so4.!Haven't thought of that since 1970 chemistry

I love it when I remember stuff and then can't remember why not during a test on the subject. =) Back to batteries: For grins, take a volt meter and ground it at the (-) post then touch it on the top of the battery between the (-) and (+) terminal in several places. Watch the meter register! -eddie

Most Water heaters and Boilers use a Magnesium anode rod, (Can buy at HD or any hardware)  Well, as long as the Penny last, you will not be a,........ "Poor and Penniless soul".  LOL On Monday, September 8, 2014 10:26 PM, "'eddie' edgyver40@... [DSN_KLR650]" DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com> wrote:
