Norm Kouba wrote me that he has no mirror extenders for KLRs (see the back page of the current Motorcycle Consumer News). I heard somewhere that certain Honda model mirrors fit KLRs (old-model at least), and Norm does offer extenders for a lot of Hondas. Anyone know which Honda mirrors fit KLRs?
Or should we all deluge him with requests that he produce some for us? These extenders would "perfectify" my rear view.
OR I may find a local machine shop to drill and tap two aluminum rods to raise the mirrors an inch or so, which would work too. In heavy city traffic I depend on them a lot.

koubalink mirror extenders
Like a dope I forgot I have aftermarket two-piece Napoleon mirrors. I ordered a pair of extenders for them.

koubalink mirror extenders
The Honda XR650L mirror used to be the mirror I sold for the KLR because of the mirror dampers built in. They were taller and acted like mirror extenders. The thread on the bottom of the damper is the same as the KLR and 99% of most all bikes but the upper thread that attaches to the Honda mirror is different and won t work on the KLR mirror or most any other mirror. So you are stuck using the Honda mirror in case it happens to break. Honda has raised the price of these mirrors to where they are the same as the late model KLR which now uses the The late model KLR mirror uses a damper that has the standard 10mm RH threads on the lower end but uses a 10mm LH thread to mount their mirror. So you can t use these on anything but Kawasaki s mirror or anyone else s mirror that has a LH thread. I sell mirror dampers that have a 10mm RH thread on both the lower and upper ends to mount your stock early model or most other 10mm thread mirror. These would extend your stock mirror a couple of inches. I also sell an adapter that mounts between your bike and your mirror to let you fold down your mirror when riding off-road, so you won t break your mirror in case of a crash. Fred

The choke (enrichener) cable could be too tight, as was said. That would make both carbs run rich after startup and a bit of warm up. Or it could be "bad". Maybe try disconnecting it and looking to see if it moves in an out.

Valves: can't hurt to adjust the valves and does not cost much. The Left-side Intake could be a problem. Rings: 2008 and early 2009 could have ring problems but the chances are a lot less than other possible problems. Vacuum Leak: check for vacuum leaks. make sure the carburetor boots are installed correctly. use water to find a vacuum leak. a spray bottle works well. water fills and blocks the vacuum leak. Carburetor: set the carburetor to factory specs. make sure the float pivot pin is installed properly.make sure the vent tube(s) are not crimped. Choke: make sure the choke is adjusted correctly. too loose is better than too tight. On Tue, Oct 1, 2013 at 4:37 PM, wrote: A friend bought an '09 on eBay and is having problems with it. This is the latest. Any suggestions? Installed the carb I purchased with only 1700 miles on it, made absolutely no difference, still will not idle. Starts up right away, OK for a little while then wants to die. It starts right up again each time, then again dies. No exhaust smoke, no backfire. I am pretty sure now it's not the carb, because this new one does the same thing. I don't like to give up, but I have no choice, I don't know what else to do, except have Power pick it up and then probably get screwed out of a ton of money. They are telling me a bad valve will upset the idle, or a bad ring, maybe the valve, but a ring !!! Don't believe it's good to keep on running it static, if it's running rich which appears to be happening then all that gas is diluting the oil.
