vendor friday stove (fuel??? & reclaim)
Hi Mark,
Do NOT use any other fuel aside from methanol or ethanol in this stove!
Isopropanol may be used in an emergency, bit it will dirty-up your pots.
Fuels such as gasoline, napthas (Coleman white
gas, Zippo fluid, etc) present an explosion
hazard.
Longer-chain fuels such as kerosenes, Jet A,
diesels, liquid paraffins (lamp oil), whale
blubber, etc., will burn extremely dirty and will
most likely not vaporize enough fuel to sustain
flames from the burner ports.
As far as reclaiming unused fuel goes, I found a
nifty little plastic 80ml cup that I keep in my
personal kit. You can easily stash a Dixie cup,
or Nyquil dosage cup, etc into your kit.
I dump unused fuel through the burner ports, into
the cup, and pour back into my fuel bottle. You
can see this at the 11:39 mark in the third video
on our website.
After a while, you get used to the stoves
characteristics and know approximately how much
fuel you need for the job, minimizing the amount
of leftover fuel.
