I had Century 21. They were OK. But they got sold to Farmers. Farmers doesn't insure bikes, so I got switched to Foremost. Foremost is more apt to cancel me than to tell me that my credit card expired. I don't like them. Progressive advertises like crazy, as does Geico, so I figure they can't be cheap. Progressive quoted me at $102 a year. Not minimum coverage either, so it seems like a good deal. I can't remember the details on the coverage. I live in the Dallas Texas area and I'm 47 with no accidents or claims in the last 10 years, and the bike's paid for. I know these play into the rates... ________________________________ From: RobertWichert To: "dsn_klr650@yahoogroups.com" dsn_klr650@yahoogroups.com>; GCDSR@yahoogroups.com Sent: Wednesday, March 7, 2012 8:24 AM Subject: [DSN_KLR650] Insurance help - NKLR I had Century 21. I have always gotten decent rates and service from State Farm. I dunno if you need to have your car there too. Around here, Dairyland has great rates. Insurance prices are highly dependent on where you garage the bike, though, so advice you get from someone half a continent away is probably not useful. Shop around locally, or try an independent agent.

I have had State Farm for 20 years with home, auto, and life insurance. When I called my agent to add my KLR, they quoted me an insane premium (about $700 per year). I asked them why and they said the KLR is classified in the same group as sport bikes. I argued with them and my agent agreed that it is crazy (she rides), but that's State Farm's policy. She said they have two groups, cruisers are the lower premiums (still higher than I found at Progressive) and the rest are in the higher premium group. Your mileage may vary... -David ________________________________ From: Jud To: DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com Sent: Wednesday, March 7, 2012 8:49 AM Subject: [DSN_KLR650] Re: Insurance help - NKLR I have always gotten decent rates and service from State Farm. You'll want to be sure to read the policy for whoever you consider. Geico for example has a clause which voids coverage if you ride more than 500 miles in a single day. Maybe not much of an issue for KLRs, but potentially problematic for many folks on street bikes. -- Kevin Powers White Bear Lake, MN [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

Rates must be relative to one's area. I'm 46, single, live in an apt. in a town of about 150,000. My last ticket was in the late 90's. State Farm insured my KLR650 for less than half that. {Full coverage, modest deductables., etc...} I had a 2011 CBR250R and when I traded and got a FZ8, it was just $1 more a month. Crazy! eddie

I use Safeco, about $260/yr. year round. My neighbor is a State Farm agent. He's tried to get me to convert & his rates on the bike are similar. But his boat rates are insane. So rather than move all but one, I just leave them all alone. - Bill _____ From: DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com [mailto:DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com] On Behalf Of RobertWichert Sent: Wednesday, March 07, 2012 6:25 AM To: dsn_klr650@yahoogroups.com; GCDSR@yahoogroups.com Subject: [DSN_KLR650] Insurance help - NKLR I had Century 21. AAA has medical (bike) lower then anyone else, others Companies, and motorcycle 2-laywers say NO-WAY, can't be that cheap. OR try to collect when injured, I did for ER, (out patiant) 4 broken ribs. No issue. Thats the reason I stay with AAA,
