gasket question
Like Jeff said, some use the gasket "dry". If it's still nice and pliable,
just get the mating
surface on the head really clean with a rag and some brake cleaner (no hard
scrapers that could gouge the aluminum).
I only put a tiny dot of RTV in the "corners" where the half round cam
plugs meet the rest of the gasket and spread it across the
area lightly to help in that area. The rest of the gasket surface I leave
bare. The OEM gasket's been off/on a good half dozen times with
no problems. Your mileage may vary, etc...
If the gasket has come free of the cover, I clean the groove it sits in
with brake cleaner
and a Scotchbrite pad before putting a dot of 3M gasket glue {some call it
black or yellow monkey snot}here and there to hold it
in place to smooth installation. Again, less is more as it can be a real
pain to remove later.
